La Grande Terrasse Old Montréal | Waterfront Dining with Old Port Views
La Grande Terrasse is one of the popular restaurants to visit in Old Port Montreal. The exterior is warm and inviting, as are the menu and prices. I visited this restaurant over the weekend and was not disappointed. This gem is located at 321 Place Jacques-Cartier, Montreal, making it easy to find thanks to its iconic red exterior.
What truly impressed me were the breathtaking views of the Old Port. Enjoying a drink while taking in this scenery created the perfect atmosphere for an afternoon lunch. I must mention that our lunch was delicious, and everything we ordered tasted fantastic. If you're visiting Montreal or are a local in search of a hearty meal, La Grande Terrasse is conveniently located less than 10 minutes away from both Place d'Armes and Champ de Mars metro stations.
This is an excellent place for a quick lunch with friends, celebrating a birthday, or enjoying a lovely dinner on their outdoor patio. I tried several dishes from their menu, including the Quebecor pizza, fries, and the rosé sangria.
Rose Sangria – $30: Pineapple juice, Sprite, rosé wine, and brown rum
The rose sangria was an enjoyable addition to our meal. The pitcher was priced at $30 and was enough for us to each enjoy two drinks, making it a great deal. The sangria had a sweet yet light flavour that paired very well with our food and made for a refreshing choice on the terrace.
I would definitely recommend this sangria, as it was worth the price and added to the overall dining experience. Terrasse Jacques-Cartier also offers other sangria options on their current menu, including a blanc, a rouge, and a rosé, giving guests a variety of choices to enjoy while taking in the atmosphere of Old Montreal.
Buffalo Chicken Wings with Homemade Fries
Let me start by talking about the fries. At $8 per basket, the price was a little steep, but the quality of the product was good. The fries were golden, crispy, and perfectly cooked, making them a satisfying side dish to accompany the wings. Overall, I would give the fries a solid 8/10.
We also ordered 16 buffalo chicken wings for $28. For three people, the portion was more than enough and provided a good amount to share. The wings themselves were delicious, with great flavour and a satisfying texture. However, while the wings were amazing, I did find the price to be on the higher side considering there were not many garnishes or additional sauces included.
Overall, the wings were enjoyable and the portion size was generous, but I felt the value could have been improved with a little more attention to the presentation and accompaniments.
Quebecer Pizza—pepperoni, bacon, and mushrooms.
The Quebecer pizza was delicious and easily stood out as the best item we ordered during our visit. Priced at $25, this pizza offered a great combination of flavours with the classic pairing of pepperoni, bacon, and mushrooms.
The size falls somewhere between a small and medium pizza. While the slices were not large, they were still satisfying, and the portion was enough for each of us to enjoy two slices. The flavour, quality of ingredients, and overall taste made this one of the highlights of our meal.
I give Terrasse Jacques-Cartier a solid 7/10 for the food, service, and overall dining experience. My favourite dish was definitely the Quebecer pizza. I honestly have not had a pizza this good in a long time, and it was the highlight of our meal. The buffalo chicken wings were nicely crispy and flavourful, while the homemade fries also had a great texture with the perfect amount of crispiness.
I would return to Terrasse Jacques-Cartier again because I want to explore more of its menu. At first glance, the menu may appear basic, but the food will surprise you. Sometimes, the simplest dishes can deliver the most memorable flavours, and this was definitely the case during my visit.
Lastly, the prices are somewhat higher than average, but when you visit Old Montréal’s Old Port, it is reasonable to expect that you may spend a bit more for the location and overall experience. While many items can be found at more affordable prices elsewhere, the ambiance, waterfront setting, and comprehensive dining experience contribute to what you are paying for.
