Maggie Oakes Fine Dining Restaurant, Old Port, Montreal

Maggie Oakes Fine Dining Restaurant, Old Port, Montreal

Old Port Montréal is home to some of the best restaurants the city has to offer, and one of my newest favourites is Maggie Oakes. Located at 426 Place Jacques-Cartier, this restaurant is easy to find and enjoys a prime location in the heart of one of Montréal’s most historic and popular neighbourhoods.

Maggie Oakes is the perfect destination for a weekend brunch, a special dinner, or a memorable meal with friends and family. With its elegant atmosphere, beautiful setting, and inviting dining space, the restaurant offers a wonderful experience for both locals and visitors exploring Old Montréal.

One thing to keep in mind when visiting Maggie Oakes is the pricing. Restaurants in Old Montréal can be more expensive compared to other areas of the city, so it is best to plan for a higher cost per meal. However, the location, atmosphere, and overall dining experience make it a popular choice for those looking to enjoy a special occasion or experience one of the area’s well-known restaurants.

During busy periods, especially when Montréal welcomes a large number of visitors, service may occasionally take a little longer than expected. Making a reservation in advance is highly recommended to ensure a smooth and enjoyable dining experience. Check out my full visit below to discover what I ordered, my experience at Maggie Oakes, and why this restaurant has become one of my favourite spots in Old Montréal.

Black Cod with Roasted Cauliflower and Vegetables (Not Currently on the Menu)

During my visit to Maggie Oakes, I had the opportunity to try the Black Cod with Roasted Cauliflower and Vegetables, a dish that is unfortunately not currently available on the menu. This dish was truly impressive and remains one of the highlights of my dining experience.

The black cod was cooked beautifully, with a delicate texture and wonderful flavour. The accompanying sauces complemented the fish perfectly without overpowering the natural taste of the dish. The roasted cauliflower and vegetables were also prepared exceptionally well, offering great flavour and the perfect level of tenderness.

Truffled Mashed Potatoes

The truffle mashed potatoes at Maggie Oakes were a simple yet memorable side dish that truly felt comforting and familiar. With a flavour that reminded me of a homemade meal, this dish was a wonderful addition to my dining experience.

Priced at only $8, these mashed potatoes offered excellent value. Considering the quality, flavour, and generous use of ingredients, I would have expected the price to be slightly higher. The truffle oil was noticeable and added a beautiful depth of flavour, but it was used perfectly — enhancing the dish without overpowering the creamy potato base.

The texture was smooth, fluffy, and incredibly satisfying. If you are visiting Maggie Oakes, I highly recommend adding this side dish to your meal. It is a great example of how even a simple dish can become one of the highlights of a dining experience.

Chocolate and Caramel Delight

The Chocolate and Caramel Delight at Maggie Oakes is a beautifully crafted dessert that combines rich flavours and contrasting textures. Made with almond and chocolate biscuits, salted caramel, dark chocolate, and hazelnut mousse, this dessert offers the perfect balance between sweetness, creaminess, and crunch.

Each bite delivers a smooth and velvety texture from the hazelnut mousse, while the almond and chocolate biscuits add a satisfying crunch. The dark chocolate pairs exceptionally well with the salted caramel, creating a flavour combination that feels both elegant and indulgent.

Because this dessert is quite rich, it is the perfect option to share after a meal. I highly recommend enjoying it with a nice cup of coffee or a latte to complete your dining experience and create the perfect ending to your evening at Maggie Oakes.

Final Review of Maggie Oakes

My final review of Maggie Oakes is that it offers a truly memorable dining experience in the heart of Old Montréal. From the beautiful location and elegant atmosphere to the delicious food and welcoming service, my visit was enjoyable from beginning to end.

One of the highlights of my experience was the beautiful patio overlooking the Old Port. Sitting outside while enjoying the views of Place Jacques-Cartier and the historic surroundings of Old Montréal created a special atmosphere that made the meal even more enjoyable. The patio is the perfect place to relax, take in the scenery, and enjoy the energy of one of Montréal’s most iconic neighbourhoods.

Maggie Oakes is also one of my top recommendations for a date night in Montréal. The stylish décor, romantic atmosphere, excellent food, and beautiful setting make it an ideal choice for couples looking for a special evening together. Whether you are celebrating an occasion or simply enjoying a night out, the restaurant provides the perfect combination of ambiance and quality dining.

While restaurants in Old Montréal can be a little more expensive, Maggie Oakes delivers an experience that goes beyond just the meal. The combination of great food, attentive service, and an unforgettable location makes it a restaurant worth discovering.

I highly recommend visiting Maggie Oakes during your next trip to Old Montréal. Reservations are highly recommended, especially during the warmer months when the patio is in high demand.
