Upon arrival at Avesta, one of the first things you will notice is the fresh, irresistible smell of handmade flatbread filling the air. Right in the restaurant’s window, you can watch an employee prepare this delicious flatbread fresh daily, showcasing the care and dedication that goes into every detail of the dining experience.

This freshly made flatbread is served alongside many of the dishes on the menu, making it the perfect accompaniment to enjoy with appetizers, dips, and main courses. Its warm, soft texture and homemade taste add an extra special touch to every bite.

Side Note: This was by far the freshest flatbread I have ever had. It was perfectly soft, warm, and full of flavour. The flatbread was not only delicious on its own but also the perfect addition to the meals and appetizers that were ordered. It truly added to the authentic Turkish dining experience at Avesta.

To make this soft, fluffy, and flavourful homemade Turkish flatbread, you will need the following simple ingredients:

  • 1 ¼ cups warm water (105–110°F)

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • ¾ cup Greek-style yogurt

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt

  • 3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

The decor at Avesta is warm, cozy, and inviting. From the beautiful lighting and comfortable table furnishings to the overall layout of the space, every detail creates a welcoming atmosphere where guests can relax and enjoy their meal. The restaurant has a charming and comfortable feel that makes it a great spot for a casual lunch, dinner with friends, or a memorable dining experience in downtown Montreal.

The menu is clear and easy to navigate, with many of the dishes featuring pictures to help guests discover what they would like to try. This is especially helpful for anyone visiting Turkish cuisine for the first time. The staff was also extremely friendly and helpful, taking the time to answer any questions I had about the ingredients, sauces, and different dishes available on the menu.

For my appetizer, I ordered the hummus, and it was the perfect choice to start my meal. The hummus was incredibly tasty, smooth, and creamy, with the perfect balance of flavours. The highlight of this dish was definitely the hot, fresh, homemade flatbread that came alongside it. The combination of the warm flatbread and creamy hummus made every bite even more delicious.

Overall, this appetizer was a true standout, and I give it a solid 10/10. It was a simple yet perfectly executed dish that showcased the quality and care that goes into the food at Avesta.

Hummus: $10
Chickpea puree, lemon, garlic, and olive oil

The hummus at Avesta was a great way to start my meal. This dish was fresh, homemade, and full of flavour. The creamy chickpea puree had the perfect balance of lemon, garlic, and olive oil, creating a smooth and delicious appetizer that was both simple and satisfying.

For only $10, this dish was also a great value. The portion was generous, and the quality of the ingredients truly stood out. Paired with Avesta’s hot, freshly made homemade flatbread, every bite was even more enjoyable.

This was honestly one of the best hummus dishes I have ever had. The freshness, creamy texture, and homemade taste made it a memorable appetizer that I would highly recommend trying when visiting Avesta.

Tuvuk Lavash: $20
Chicken sandwich, grilled vegetables, and green salad

For my main entree, I ordered the Tuvuk Lavash, and this was hands down one of the best chicken wraps I have ever tried. From the first bite, each ingredient came together perfectly. The lavash bread was soft, warm, and fluffy, creating the perfect base for the delicious filling inside.

The chicken was cooked perfectly—tender, flavorful, and seasoned beautifully. The combination of the grilled vegetables and the amazing sauce added even more depth to the dish, making every bite incredibly satisfying. The flavors were fresh, balanced, and truly showcased the care that goes into Avesta’s food.

I highly recommend trying the Tuvuk Lavash if you are visiting Avesta. While the price is slightly higher at $20, the portion size, quality of ingredients, and overall taste make it worth it. This is definitely a dish I would order again.

The Tuvuk Lavash also comes with a fresh green salad on the side. Avesta gives guests the option to enjoy the salad with or without dressing, which is a great touch for those who prefer to customize their meal.

I highly recommend the food at Avesta to anyone looking to experience delicious Turkish cuisine in downtown Montreal. The pricing is fair for the quality and freshness of the dishes, although it is not the cheapest option available.

While I enjoyed the cozy decor and welcoming atmosphere, it was not the most impressive restaurant decor I have seen. However, the excellent service, friendly staff, and incredible freshness of the food truly stood out. One of my favourite parts of the experience was the freshly made flatbread, which is prepared daily and adds a special homemade touch to the meal.

Overall, I give Avesta a solid 8/10, mainly because of the quality, freshness, and flavours of the dishes. I also appreciate that Avesta is open late on weekends and can accommodate larger groups, making it a great option for gatherings with family and friends.

If you are looking for authentic Turkish food in Montreal, Avesta is definitely worth checking out. Visit their official website for the latest pricing, opening hours, menu options, and more.
