Opened in late 2023, Onigiri Shop Monkland has quickly become one of my favourite new food spots in Montreal. Since opening, this Japanese specialty shop has gained a lot of attention, with lineups often extending out the door as locals and visitors come to try their unique menu.

Onigiri Shop specializes in freshly made Japanese rice balls (onigiri) featuring a variety of traditional and creative fillings. Their menu includes Classic, Fusion, and Chef Choice options, offering something for every taste. As of 2026, individual onigiri start at $4.99 and up, depending on the selection.

In addition to onigiri, they also offer delicious soups, desserts, specialty drinks, and tea options. Located at 5600 Monkland Ave. in Montreal, this charming restaurant is a must-visit destination when exploring Monkland Village.

Seating is limited, and reservations are not available, so I recommend arriving early, especially on weekends. Whether you are trying onigiri for the first time or are already a fan of Japanese cuisine, Onigiri Shop is a unique Montreal food experience worth discovering.


Daldongnae Korean BBQ

Daldongnae Korean BBQ is one of my favourite Korean BBQ restaurants in Montreal and a must-visit for anyone looking for a unique dining experience. Located at 1216 Bishop Street in the heart of Downtown Montreal, this restaurant is known for its traditional table barbecue experience, where guests cook their own meat right at the table.

Each table barbecue option is designed for one person and includes a choice of protein, including beef, pork, premium Wagyu beef, and a vegan set. What makes the experience even better is that every table barbecue comes with complimentary dishes such as corn cheese, steamed eggs, lettuce, soybean stew, and a variety of Korean side dishes.

Beyond the delicious food, Daldongnae stands out for its beautiful décor, welcoming atmosphere, and excellent service. From the quality of the ingredients to the overall dining experience, this restaurant remains at the top of my list and earns a well-deserved 10/10 from me.

Because of its popularity, be prepared for a wait during busy periods, especially on weekends when lineups can reach up to an hour. The wait is worth it for a fresh bowl of handmade noodles that has earned a reputation as one of Montreal’s must-try food experiences.

One of my favourite things about Jardin Nelson is that I return every year to experience their updated menu and enjoy the unique atmosphere. It has become a tradition for me to visit at least twice each summer.

During the warmer months, expect long lineups as both locals and visitors come to enjoy the combination of great food, live jazz, and the charm of Old Montreal. Arriving early is recommended, especially during peak summer weekends.
