Today, I visited Tommy Café for the first time—and I completely fell in love!
Tommy Café has several locations throughout downtown Montreal, each offering its own unique charm. For this visit, I stopped by the flagship location inside the historic British Empire Building at 200 Notre-Dame Street West in Old Montreal and was instantly impressed by its stunning décor, elegant architecture, and warm, inviting atmosphere.
I love discovering cafés that are spacious, comfortable, and full of character, and Tommy Café certainly delivers. Conveniently located less than a 10-minute walk from Place-d'Armes Metro, this beautiful café is well known for its specialty coffee, flaky croissants, avocado toast, and creative lattes, all served in one of Montreal's most breathtaking café interiors. Whether you're stopping by for breakfast, brunch, an afternoon coffee, or a sweet treat, you'll leave impressed by the exceptional atmosphere, delicious menu, and one of the most photogenic café experiences in Montreal.
Walking into Tommy Café felt like stepping into a scene from Sex and the City. From the moment I entered, I was captivated by the beautiful hanging plants, elegant décor, and thoughtfully designed seating areas. This location spans two floors, giving guests the option to relax on the main level or enjoy the charming upper terrace, both of which offer a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.
One of my favourite features is the beautiful view of downtown Montreal. If you're lucky enough to grab a window seat, you're in for a treat. The menu at Tommy Café offers a selection of light yet satisfying dishes. While it isn't the largest menu you'll find, there are plenty of delicious options to choose from, including avocado toast, spicy tuna sandwiches, almond croissants, and other freshly prepared favorites. In my opinion, the prices are a little on the higher side, but that's fairly typical for cafés located in Old Montreal, where you're paying for both the quality and the unforgettable atmosphere.
Almond Croissant, Raspberry Scone & Regular Latte
I had heard many great reviews about the baked goods at Tommy Café, which immediately sparked my curiosity. After browsing the menu, I decided to order the almond croissant, raspberry scone, and a regular latte—and I'm so glad I did.
Let's start with the latte. It was smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced, making it one of the highlights of my visit. The almond croissant tasted incredibly fresh, with a delicious almond filling and a light, flaky texture. I especially loved the extra crunch on the outside, which paired well with my latte.
The raspberry scone was my least favourite item of the three. While it certainly wasn't bad, it didn't stand out or offer anything particularly unique compared to other scones I've tried. It was enjoyable, but if I were to visit Tommy Café again, I would definitely order a different item.
Overall, I absolutely loved my visit to Tommy Café. This location inside the historic British Empire Building is truly one of the most beautiful cafés in Montreal, offering a unique atmosphere that feels elegant, cozy, and unforgettable. From the stunning décor and hanging plants to the delicious lattes and fresh pastries, this café delivers an experience that goes beyond just coffee.
I would say this particular Tommy Café location attracts a younger crowd, including students and young professionals who are seeking a place to study, work, meet friends, or enjoy a coffee in a stylish setting. The spacious two-floor layout and incredible architecture make it a popular spot, especially for those who appreciate a more modern and Instagram-worthy café experience.
If you're looking for a more relaxed, family-oriented atmosphere, I would recommend visiting the Tommy Café location at 151 Rue Saint-Paul Ouest, Montreal, QC H2Y 1Z3, in Old Montreal. That location has a warmer brunch café feel and would be perfect for a Saturday morning visit with family or friends.
